Alternative heating systems
Interserve is committed to providing sustainable building services so when heating systems at a site on the Defence Training Estate were coming to the end of their life, a study to identify the best practical sustainable option was undertaken.

A significant reduction in energy consumption can be achieved by changing individual behaviour to avoid wasting energy and to use it more efficiently.
Car sharing initiative implementation
Interserve is committed to a sustainable approach in conducting our business. Reducing our environmental impact is very much part of our commitment and this initiative was designed to do just that.
Choice of raw materials in construction
Flexibility and inspirational design were inherent in Interserve's construction remit for Torquay Community College, a Building Schools for the Future Private Finance Initiative.
Considerate construction
Major repair of the public Victoria Footbridge over the River Wye in Hereford, linking the city park to the city centre, was required.
Demolition in a conservation area
Interserve's work was to decommission old fuel installations at the Troodos Station, including the demolition of redundant fuel storage housings.
Effective management of land resources
In managing the Otterburn Defence Training Estate (DTE) over 10,000 items of fencing posts, stakes and rails along with 80 tonnes of wood chip are utilised each year. This material traditionally is procured from local merchants.
Efficient design and plant
Interserve was party to setting the blueprint for Building Schools for the Future in this project. Sustainability was a key consideration throughout all stages of the project and formed an integral part of the design.
