Minimising use of raw materials

Minimising use of raw materials

Facts and figures

  • The products have multiple uses on site, can be readily cleaned after use and re-engineered if damaged

Initiatives taken include:

  • Re-spray with solvent-based paint reduced by change to water based paint and increased use of galvanising
  • Panel products made from recycled plastics further reduces use of timber and supports recycling industry

Why did we do this?

The market is looking for ways to provide safer, faster and less wasteful methods of construction. RMD Kwikform is Interserve’s specialist formwork and falsework business and it is here that this development work has taken place.

Concrete has many sustainable features but traditionally formwork was provided from bespoke one-off timber structures.

How did we do this?

We worked with users and suppliers to develop standard modular products that meet their needs and can be effectively manufactured. Our equipment is engineered to provide increased accuracy and minimise waste in construction with enhanced health and safety features built in.

We continue to evolve products to improve usability and minimise the environmental impact of refurbishment. The reusable design ensures minimal scrappage and a reduced requirement for new raw materials.

Benefits

  • Multiple reuse product with life up to 40 years
  • Fully recyclable steel and aluminium products
  • Timber elements sourced from well-managed sustainable sources
  • Improved safety for workers on construction sites
  • Less waste produced and improved quality of final structures
