Reduction in potable water use
Facts and figures
- We aim to maximise the use of our equipment whilst maintaining quality and safety levels at the same time. Water is screened and filtered before being returned to the jet wash pump.
- Periodic cleaning of the sump also allows safe disposal of waste concrete washed off panels
Why did we do this?
At Interserve we operate against a background of sustainable development and continuous improvement. We regularly consider how we can deliver related improvements.
In RMD Kwikform, Interserve’s specialist formwork and falsework business, equipment returning from working locations requires effective cleaning before it is quality checked and returned to stock. Jet washing is the most effective cleaning process but has high water requirement.
How did we do this?
We reviewed the cleaning process utilised to remove concrete residue and other construction site debris and implemented an improved methodology. We constructed dedicated jet washing facilities in branches with high powered washing equipment and included routine reuse of water in the process.
Benefits
- Potable water consumption reduced due to use of recycled water
- Improved cleaning of products achieving higher quality standards
- Enhanced control of waste solids discharged off site
